DC Conference

  • March 23-26, 2014 | Washington, D.C.
For more than 30 years, American Legion Auxiliary members have made their presence known
in our nation’s capital. Joining fellow members of The American Legion Family, we learn about
our veterans' needs and the legislative priorities of The American Legion, then we visit Capitol
Hill to encourage our country’s lawmakers to pass legislation that protects veterans’ rights and
provides for their needs. By attending the Washington DC Conference, we learn how to be bette
r advocates for those we serve.

During this event, we also present the Auxiliary's Public Spirit Award honoring an outstanding
individual or organization that positively impacts communities through service to our military,
    veterans, and their families.

Team Washington February Report

Team Washington was out in full force at the Department Mid-winter Executive Committee Meeting.  Those members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the Legion Riders were there and promoting our candidate for National President in 2016, Mary Davis.  Unfortunately Mary couldn’t join us because of a commitment to the National Organization in Indianapolis.
With the help of the members of this committee, especially Mike and Laura Bondurant of Spokane, we had about $1000.00 in sales of the products we have for sale or raffle.  The t-shirts are in.  They are black polo shirts with the logo on the front and back and Commander Davidson has authorized them to be the “Department” shirts for the next four years.  They will be selling for $25.00 and can be ordered through Hanny Elston, Lorna Leodecek or Phyllis Chritofferson.

Eva Wallace gave us an overview of the Homecoming being planned in October 2016 for Mary and she really wanted to emphasize that the Department of Washington Family be there in full force.  Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.  More on this activity as we go along.  There is an Amish Blanket Chest to be offered that was donated by Tom Thoreilson, 3 quilts made by Vince Schmitt, 72” round pineapple design crocheted tablecloth handmade by Rose Ring.  All tickets being offered by Phyllis Christofferson or Lorna Ledoschuk.  I understand there is a competition to see which items sells the best.  These will be drawn at the END of Department Convention 2014 in Vancouver and the winner will be notified.

Mike and Laurie also will have a 13” flat screen TV and picnic basket being offered this year.  These will be drawn for at the end of the Department Convention.  Don’t forget to get your recipes to Jan Sperry of Lake Stevens so she can get the cookbook into production.  There is a flat screen TV and a picnic basket soon to be offered by Laura Bondurant.  Mike Montaney is getting ready to order and promote ticket sales for the 2015 calendar.  Jane Montaney is selling  tickets on the Demi Electronic Cookbook and will have it at the Conferences this spring.  Karen Swartz had a breakfast at Applebee’s in Tacoma on the 15th of February.8th District is holding a Rest Stop with the proceeds to the campaign. Each District team member will be offering Badge a Minit badges for the campaign very soon for sale at $5. Other badges will be available for free for cash donations of $25 or more.  Contact anybody mentioned for more information or Carol Prentice, Chair, at 509-235-8538 or write to her at 435 W First St, Cheney WA.
We are off and running and for headed to success.  Please plan to participate in some phase of the campaign.  We have gotten a good start, and still have a long way to go.

Can We Count On You?

Have you heard the exciting news?  After over 50 years, the Washington American Legion family has a candidate for the high position of National President of the American Legion Auxiliary.  During the Auxiliary 2016-17 administration, our own  PDP Mary Davis will bring honor to us all when she steps up to serve our great organization as its National President.
As we have come to realize, the challenges of making the dream of a National President from the Department of Washington a reality are many and varied.  This endeavor will be costly and requires support from throughout our Department.  We are writing to you today to invite you to join us and be a part of our “Team Washington”Campaign.   All Posts, Units and Squadrons are being invited to be a part of this historical event by supporting Mary’s candidacy.  This is no small task, as we need to raise between $60,000.00 and $80,000.00 over the next couple of years.  It is our hope that Districts, Units, Posts, Squadrons and other groups will host fund raising events to help us achieve that goal.
We will be sharing information about the varied events being held and provide ideas that may help you develop your own local fund raisers.  Be sure and check frequently on the activities associated with this campaign at “MaryDavis” on https://www.facebook.com/ and on our blog at http://aladaviscampaign.blogspot.com/ .Please provide information about your planned events with Campaign Chairman Carol Prentice and she will coordinate Candidate Mary’s attendance.  If Mary is not able to attend, then members of the Executive Steering Committee may be able to join you.
The support of all members of the Department of Washington Legion Family is essential for “Team Washngton” to be a success.  We hope you will agree to be part of our team.
Please return the below information to Carol Prentice, 435 W 1st St., Cheney, WA  99004-1475.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We’re on board and want to be a member of the “Washington in 2016” Campaign.Name ____________________________________
